Work acceptance
Sometimes overlooked, the acceptance of work is an important phase in the construction process, marking the completion of the work and the start of the warranty period. It is at this stage that the customer, as the client, examines the completed work in the presence of the installer or the company responsible for the work, also known as the contractor.
The importance of work acceptance and the COC
Acceptance of work is an essential stage, and should be carried out as soon as possible after completion of the project, before the customer takes possession of the finished work. If other parties are working on the site, it is advisable to take delivery of the work before they leave. If the work is not completely finished, a provisional acceptance may be carried out.
The Certificate of Completion (COC) is the document that formalizes this acceptance. It certifies that the work has been carried out correctly by the company responsible. If no comments are made, the COC is considered to be unqualified and releases the company from its obligations towards the customer. However, if apparent defects are noted, the client must record them on the COC, thereby committing the company to correcting them within an agreed timeframe.
